I just heard back from Stewart with great news: Ginger is home! It's a real lesson in how to diligently go about finding a lost dog: "We found her!!! "The tracker came up with a dead end in the neighborhood, but at least that focused our search. Up 'til then, we were just looking everywhere. We figured somebody had to have picked her up. We went up to the shelter in Rockville again, then went to shelters in DC, first the WARL, then the Humane Society and finally to the DC pound on NY Ave. As soon as we walked in and showed the girl our flier, she said "Yup, we have her." "My wife and I almost passed out. Her reaction to us was so quick and positive that I thought she meant they already have the report, since I emailed it to them Wednesday. "But she told us they got a call yesterday morning from a woman in Frederick who had her. Her pink harness, long tail and spots were the key features that id'ed her. "The woman's husband, who is a truck driver, was picking up a delivery at 6 a.m. Wednesday from TW Perry, across Connecticut Ave from us, and saw Ginger walking around the parking lot. He took her in his truck and called his wife. Ginger rode with him on his deliveries all day and then spent the past two nights at their home in Adamstown, where they have two Jack Russells, a huge yard and an in-ground swimming pool that the dogs swim in. They love Jacks and they fell in love with Ginger, whom they called "Lady." So it turns out it was like a country vacation for her. "The woman didn't know which shelter to call since we are so close to DC, so she called the DC shelter. She said she tried the one in Rockville as well, but gave up after being put on hold for 25 minutes. "We picked her up about two hours ago and just got home. I didn't want to notify you until I saw her and was absolutely sure it was Ginger. "Thank you so much for all of your help. Here's a picture I took with my phone of the family, with Ginger....." I've posted the photos at http://www.flickr. com/photos/ robinsiegel/ 4756342016/ Love a happy ending! Thanks to all who offered assistance. | |
