I've seen a few mentions of a possible East Bethesda Community Pool in various EBCA communications over the last year or two. Is bringing a pool to Lynbrook park a realistic possibility? Have the necessary steps to get something like this done been explored?
I think it would be a great amenity to add to the neighborhood and would be willing to assist whoever is heading up the effort.

I would be interested in helping. I spoke to Greg about this briefly a year ago, but I have not followed up. Let's get it going! Regards, Bob

I would very interested in helping in any way. How do we proceed/ investigate the possibility? This would be such a great addition to the neighborhood.

Just following up to my earlier post to see if anyone is interested inpursuing this and how I can help. Maybe now that the middle school is no longer a possibility, we can investigate how to pursue a neighborhood pool. I can be reached at jim.loreto@verizon.net.

I think this is great idea. It doesn't look like anyone has explored this, so I called the county Department of Permitting as a start. They should call me back within 5 days. I'll share whatever I find out. -Ella

So I looked into starting a pool about 5 years ago and yes, I think it is a fabulous idea and yes, every year we seem to get more and more interest. This is what I found out and I think Anne Hawkins may have a more recent update. I spoke to Mark Wallis (maybe in 2007?) at Park Planning and Resource Analysis Unit, 301.350.4389 at 1109 Spring Street, mark.wallis@mncppc-mc.org. At the time, they were in the process of figuring out which community centers to close down. If you look at our original master plan (I have a copy if you need it), you can see that the Community Center and surrounding land were originally designated to the East Bethesda Community Association (or similar name). I am not sure how the land became owned by the county, but it now is their property. Mark wasn't sure what the future plan with the land was going to be but at the time he estimated the cost around $2 000 000 to purchase. ball park guess. Assuming we could generate enough capital through founding memberships to pay for the land and construction, we would also need to get approval from Parks Planning and would somehow need to create a charter that allowed neighbors to join but also gave some sort of access to the public community since we would be removing a public resource. If anyone is interested in finding out what the current status is, I would be glad to pass along any other information. Now that the community center has been shut down, I think we may actually have a better chance. Overall, this kind of resource in our neighborhood would be an amazing addition, attraction and absolutely beneficial to our property values.

and, BTW, we may have a bit of a road block since the Planning Dept (not school board or parks dept) recommends that the new middle school be located at Lynbrook. Looks like we are safe with the middle school. I am happy to make any inquires and any calls. Are people interested in setting up a meeting or phone call to discuss a plan ahead to research the latest?
